Lecture: Soundscapes and Neuroarchitecture
The lecture Soundscapes and Neuroarchitecture was presented within NAAD – Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design at IUAV University, a specialised postgraduate programme directed by Davide Ruzzon and dedicated to the intersection of neuroscience, architecture and human experience.
The lecture explored sound as an architectural and perceptual phenomenon, moving beyond conventional approaches centred on acoustic performance to investigate how sonic environments shape embodied experience, spatial perception and well-being. Drawing across architectural acoustics, psychoacoustics, soundscape studies and neuroarchitecture, Boarino examined the relationship between sound, body and space, considering listening as both a mode of perceiving architecture and an active design methodology. The contribution positioned the sonic dimension alongside light, materiality and spatial configuration as a fundamental component of multisensory architectural experience.
