Learning from Artists: How to Sense the Imperceptible
Sofia Boarino’s practice is featured in Learning from Artists: How to Sense the Imperceptible, the first publication in a four-part editorial series by Art Senses, an initiative of Therme Art exploring key currents in contemporary sensory art. Bringing together the work of Sofia Boarino, Marc Vilanova, Abel & Karlo Korinsky and Kerrie O’Leary, the article examines how artists working across sound, light, vibration, environmental data and movement translate phenomena that ordinarily remain beyond human perception into embodied, multisensory experiences. Through an extended discussion of Vocal Photosynthesis and Sounds of Etna, the publication situates Boarino’s practice within this emerging sensory discourse, focusing on her investigation of invisible physical forces and their capacity to shape perception, physiology and emotional states. The article considers the body as transmitter, receiver and co-creator, and positions her work within a broader shift from representing imperceptible phenomena towards creating conditions in which they can be physically and perceptually experienced.
